Oliver & Abbott offers the complete bespoke experience, as you would in a tailor shop on London’s Savile Row. We take into consideration our client’s requirements and style before walking them through the process from start to finish. This includes designing, cutting, fitting and finally creating, what we hope to be, an impeccably tailor made garment for you. With over 900 suit, jacket and shirt fabrics sourced from Asia, Europe and the U.K to choose from, we carry cloths to satisfy most tastes and price points.
We currently function on an appointment only basis, and can meet clients either at a location suitable to them or at our fitting studio in North Jakarta. During our first meeting, we help you choose your fabric, take your measurements and create a draft design for your approval. This is followed up by a first fitting 2-3 weeks later, a final fitting, and then; the completed garment. The entire process takes between 6 to 8 weeks.
Cheaper than your wife’s handbag
Half canvassed suits start at Rp. 7,500,000 (Approx. US$ 520) inclusive of cloth and tailoring, but exclusive of shipping charges. Bespoke cotton shirts start at Rp. 990,000 (Approx. US$ 75), again, exclusive of shipping. Kindly contact us for fully canvassed construction pricing. Cheaper than the average designer handbag wouldn’t you agree?
Half Canvassed or Fully Canvassed?
These options refer to the way the suit coat is constructed. Many clients wonder what the difference is between these two options; and which one better meets their needs.
Half Canvassed
- – Synthetic fusing is used to give body to the coat front with a chest piece of canvas in between
- – Heat is applied to attach the cloth to the fusing
- – Quicker and cheaper to complete
- – Increased risk of bubbling on the coat front with repeated dry cleans, particularly dependant on the harshness of chemicals used by the cleaners
- – The general standard for ready made suits
Fully Canvassed
- – Horsehair canvas is used to give body to the coat front
- – The canvas is stitched to the cloth by hand
- – Time consuming and more expensive to complete
- – No chance of bubbling on the coat front
- – The highest standard of bespoke suit construction
If this is your first time purchasing a tailor made suit, the half canvassed construction method is a good entry way into the world of bespoke tailoring. However, especially when using finer cloths with higher thread counts, the fully canvassed construction method is always the best choice. This is further discussed during our initial consult with you.

Cufflinks
Formal shirts traditionally feature double cuffs; necessitating cufflinks. Our cufflinks range from silver to mother of pearl; with a few novel ones in between. Women have jewellery, men have cufflinks. Don’t be shy to start wearing cufflinks if you haven’t already done so. They voice sophistication and personal taste.
Pocket Squares
We source and produce a range of pocket squares. Essential to any coat, try one of our pure linen squares that come in a variety of coloured edgings; making them easy to match with your outfit. For a more classic look, try a silk paisley square with bolder edgings and brighter hues. We also also carry plain white pocket squares which are a necessity to any man’s wardrobe.
Ties
Formal and business wear generally calls for either a tie or a bowtie. We carry subtle prints and some colourful varieties made from pure silk and microfibre fabric. Our standard tie widths range between 3 and 3.75 inches. Also in our collection are selected knit ties; available in classic colours and designs with an average width of 2.5 inches.
“I have to dry clean my suits after each wearâ€Â
This is not true. Depending on use, we recommend a minimum of 1 trip to the cleaners annually, and a maximum of 3 for heavy usage. In case of serious staining, use a quality dry cleaner to help remove the stain professionally. Contact us for recommendations. For small stains, consider using stain removal pens. Again, contact us for specific brand recommendations.
“I’ll home-wash the trousers and dry clean the coatâ€Â
We suggest always dry cleaning together. Never wash formal trousers at home; especially for all wool fabrics. Casual trousers made from cotton and linen may be cold washed at home.
“How do I take care of my suit if I don’t dry clean it?â€Â
Hang the coat and trousers in a well ventilated area. A bit of sunlight would also do the garment good. Use a lint remover after each wear. Check the trousers to see if the front and back crease are still sharp. If not, home iron these to redefine them.
“Do I have to dry clean shirts too?â€Â
A cold wash at home is sufficient, but dry cleaning them will extend their life substantially. When home washing, aim for a “delicates†wash to reduce wear and tear on the collars and cuffs. Always remember to remove the collar bones before each wash and re-insert them after pressing.
Inspired by classic British tailoring, Oliver & Abbott was conceived in 2017 and operations began in Jakarta, Indonesia thereafter. We fuse classic British design with contemporary elements, adding subtle details to create our own signature style. We strongly believe that a good tailor is one of your greatest allies – someone who can improve your level of sophistication, professionalism and self confidence; all for a reasonably affordable fee.
The concept of the “Suit†– an upper and lower garment made from the same cloth – originated in England in the early 17th Century. Though much has changed since then, today’s modern day suit has much similarity to the way men dressed in the Edwardian era during the early 1900’s. It therefore comes as no surprise that our house cut features peaked lapels as opposed to notched; while we favour double breasted waistcoats. It may be true that many tailors exist in Jakarta, but in actuality, very few truly understand the way a suit should be styled, cut and worn. Indonesia’s rapid integration into International trade and rising number of young industry professionals has caused more people see the import of being dressed as well as their foreign counterparts. Our aim therefore, is not to just be another tailor in the city; but to show those seeking to dress well how to do so by providing the true bespoke British experience here in Indonesia.
